Bringing ‘Home Alone’ home
The McCallisters
If you’re anything like me, you revere the McCallister home as a beloved institution. Year over year, we lock arms with Kevin and protect this house.
While the interiors are heavily suburban-‘90s coded, there are several pieces that represent the exquisite taste of Kate McCallister, and can help to bring Home Alone, well — home.
The Foyer.
I want to slide down the bannister and generously tip the pizza delivery kid.
Here’s what I love:
• Charming mirror with gold trim. Splurge & save.
• A ficus tree in a vintage Chinese planter. Splurge & save.
• Jacobean stained high gloss floors. Gotta keep shiny!
The Dining Room.
Kevin on the verge of battle. Here’s what I would replicate:
• Conversation starting candlesticks. High drama & low drama. For brass ones, I collect from tag sales and thrift shops. It creates an eclectic and personal collection.
• Artistic spiral taper candles. (This is a big trend right now!) I bought these in Copenhagen last fall and they burned beautifully. This option is very pretty.
• Lace table covering. Splurge & save. And a hero plate.
The Living Room.
I am Harry Lime and this is what I am stealing:
• Pedestal tables. Splurge & save(ish).
• Brass Animals. Let’s go nuts. Splurge only!
• Home Alone replica Lego House.
• Speaker System. I have this one and I love it!
Primary Bedroom.
We slept in!
• Hardwired shade sconces. Splurge & save.
• Luxury drapes (though I prefer drapery rings to ruching, and never grommets).
• An alarm clock that actually works.
